Ground Safety
Ground Safety Departmental Function
- Regulation of airport, air traffic services (ATS), air navigation services (ANS) and aeronautical information service activities in conformity with ICAO Standards,
- Provision of standards documents on air traffic service personnel licensing, air traffic services, air navigation services and airports,
- Licensing of personnel for the provision of air traffic services and air navigation services,
- Co-ordinating and liasing with ICAO on matters relating to airports/ATS/ANS,
- Monitoring airport/ATS/ANS incidents and making available analysis/feedback to the stakeholders,
- Amendments to Regulations as necessary, based on international developments,
- Encouraging a greater acceptance by the aviation industry of a safety culture through safety educational programs and training.
Ground Safety Oversight
Ground Safety Department supports the aviation industry in its effort to maintain high standards of aviation safety. Our regulatory services include the licensing of air navigation services personnel and aerodromes.
Ground Safety Department is responsible for Aviation Regulatory Services, Aviation Standards and Aviation Safety Compliance on:
- Air Traffic Services
- Aerodromes
- Aeronautical Telecommunications and
- Aeronautical Electrical and Mechanical infrastructure.
Airport Oversight
To adopt and maintain high aviation safety standards through a combination of analysis, education and aviation regulatory information the aviation safety promotion strives to:
- Organise and conduct aviation regulatory, safety and awareness program and coordinate training delivery,
- Provide related technical advice and inputs for the development of educational, advisory and information publications,
- Publish the Aviation Safety Bulletin and Fiji Aeronautical Information Circulars.
